Today in Second Life we had:
- 27,694 new signups bringing us to 5,147,830 signups total.
- A peak concurrency of 35,467 at 2:25PM, and a minimum concurrency of 19,881 at 12:49AM. Average concurrency for the day was 26,886.
- Grid problems, of course. In fact search is failing to return results for many non-mainland parcels even though the bulk of the issues appear to have settled.

I’m so excited to share with everyone that my alt, Machinima Guru, is now on the Teen Grid! I met Barry Joseph, of
Global Kids, at the Machinima Festival in New York in November of 2006. While there, I expressed that I’d like to work with the teens to educate them about Machinima. The approval process started back in January and I was cleared for entrance around mid-February. After a period of preparation where I gathered as many supplies as I could from the Main Grid, I requested entrance in mid-March. After some delays, I discovered that I could finally log in!
I arrived during a live stream of a Youth Conference, so there were a number of teens on Global Kids island. It was almost a surreal experience as I could not build, didn’t know where anything was, and was afraid to do anything for fear of offending others. After the initial shock wore off, I had the chance to speak with some of the teens and let them sound off about the issues with their grid. I’ll be blogging about my experiences here, as well as giving the teens a voice on Second Life Insider. If there’s anything that you’re dying to know, leave a comment!

Do you think we can sort out a filk to “Saturday night’s the night for fighting”?
Anyway, people are notcing issues with packet loss, teleports failing, inventory rezzing and the like. Some people are seeing textures, especially larger ones, very slow to rez, if they’re rezzing fully at all. IMs are lead by the header: *** parent estate: 1, mainland (or similar), the first time I’ve seen that in a few weeks.
Many mac users are finding their SL is silent - but this is a known bug - and on a personal note, having not crashed in weeks, I’ve crashed 6 times since 1.14.1 got pushed, once bad enough I had to hold the power button down to force a shut down (I didn’t know you might need that before SL on my mac).
As yet (1pm) no word on the blog.

Having written about a Tudor teaching sim yesterday, we have a slightly different themed sim today: Tombstone, Arizona: the wild west in the sim Broken Rose.
They ask that you dress appropriately throughout the sim. As a nice touch they provide free male and female costumes in the station where you arrive. I was actually there on another mission - helping the owner of the tavern sort out something she’d bought from me - but I was in an old fashioned style dress and that seemed acceptable to them too. There was, as you might guess, a fair amount of “Howdy-ing” and, although I didn’t interrupt it there was a gun-fight in the street when I went back to take photos.
There is a weapon system used throughout the sim which you have to buy to start, if you want to shoot people - at L$100 it’s not exactly steep mind you. There are a range of shops selling native and settler clothes, and both a settler town and a native village.
Western’s were never my thing I must be honest. This sim, however, is well worth a visit, and if you fancy yourself as a cowgirl or a brave, this would seem to be the place for you.

LL’s Joe Miller, VP of Technology Development, says in a video from the Virtual Worlds Conference: “There are big businesses who will come in and fail miserably.” Clearly, he’s talking about how traditional advertising methods just won’t float with residents. The businesses that thrive and get respect are those that offer users more than just billboards and t-shirts.
